Update 10/4/16

I know, I know. I’m the worst at keeping up with this blog. I’ve jus been having so many bad days with my Hashimotos. Plus, I’m just getting over a sinus infection that I’ve had for like a month. I finally went to the doctor for it last week and he gave me an antibiotic for it. For the most part I’m feeling better.

Birthday

My dad’s birthday was on September 17th. All he wanted to do was walk around the flea market and then have dinner at my brother’s house. We only got to walk around the flea market for about an hour and a half because I had to go into work for a couple of appointments. I was able to find some good treasures though:

My favorite is the Venus de Milo statue. It was basically free. I do the owner’s hair and instead of paying me, she gives me store credit. I only do that with her because I love her store and I already shopped there way before I started doing her hair. I already owned The Proposal (my favorite movie btw), my dad borrowed it and misplaced it. He said he gave it back, but I recently just cleaned out my room very thoroughly and did not find it. Oh well it was only like a dollar so I bought it again. the complete 1st season of Fringe was only $6. I found out why when I started watching it. It skips a lot, but not too much that I can’t still enjoy it.

After my appointments, we drove out to my brother’s for din din. We had hamburgers and I got to spend some time with my cute nephew.

Mabon

I didn’t really do much for Mabon. I was still feeling gross from my sinus infection. I did set up a little outside altar and gave thanks.

Dog Sitting

I did some dog sitting for my neighbor. Her dogs are weird, but cute. They’re also super cuddly.

Skateboarding

My brother took my 3 year old nephew to the skate park. He had bought him a skateboard for his birthday last year.

Another Birthday

It was also my Gangy’s birthday last month. Alright, she’s not really my Gangy. She’s actually a neighbor that I take care of while her daughter is out of town. Her daughter does dog shows and is gone for several days at a time. While she’s gone, I’ll go over and cook breakfast and dinner for her mother (my “Gangy”). She can do everything else by herself, she’s just partially blind and can’t see the numbers on the stove/microwave. I call her my Gangy because she’s a lot nicer than my real one. Anyway, her daughter invited me to go out to lunch with them for her birthday. We went to Pisces Rising in Mount Dora. It was over priced for small portions of sub-par food. Good thing I wasn’t paying! It sure was a beautiful day though.

Well that’s how my September went. I’m excited that October is here. I can’t wait until Samhain/Halloween.

Witch Craft Wednesday: Four Elements Seashell Altar Decorations

I’ve collected a lot of seashells from trips to the beach over the past few months. The other day I put some of them to use. I decided to make decorations for my altar representing the four elements. I work with the elements a lot during spells and rituals and wanted to make some physical markers. These little ones I actually made for a a travel altar for a sea witch:

image

For my own altar, I made more detailed ones:

For air I painted a feather.

image

For fire, I think that one is obvious.

image

For water I tried to make it look like a wave crashing. I hope that’s what it looks like.

image

For earth I picked daisies because they were easiest to paint on top of the ridges.

image

I’ve also decided to go back and make one for Spirit. I always forget Spirit, wanted to start working with it more since it’s a part of me.

For the paint I used acrylics. If you make your own, just be wary of the ridges on the top of the shells. They are a bit tricky to paint on. If you make your own I’d love to see them!

Witch Crafts: Beach in a Bowl

image

This craft is perfect for sea witches that  are land locked or far from the ocean. Or for any witch that wants the “beach” on their altar. Mine kind of looks like an altar for Aphrodite, so you could do that too. You can tweak it how you want, this is just to show you one way of doing it. Let’s get started!

Supplies:
-Sand (beach or white)
-Water
-Salt (sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, or table.)
-Mortar and pestle (for crushing sea salt or HPS)
-Glass bowl
-Empty glass votive or shot glass
-Large plastic bowl (to catch any stray sand. Gets kind of messy).
-Funnel
-Tiny shells (real or fake), gemstones, or other little trinkets you want to use.

*A note about the sand: If you use sand you’ve collected from the beach, first lay it out on a large pan to dry out. Make sure it is thoroughly dry before using it or it will stink and get moldy. Also, be sure to clean out your shells if you use real ones.

1. First, put your glass votive or shot glass into your glass bowl. Then put both into tour plastic bowl.

image

2. Grab your funnel and your sand. You may want to put the sand in a cup or jar to make it easier to pour into the funnel.   Place the funnel inside the bowl, but outside of the votive. You’re going to pour the sand all the way around the votive. Gently pour the sand in. Full it to just a little bit below the lip of the votive. That way the sand won’t flow over. Once you get all the sand in, gently shift it so that the sand lays out flat.

3. If you’re using sea salt or HPS, now is when you’d crush it in the mortar and pestle. I used sea salt to give it more of an ocean feel. But if all you have is table salt, that’s fine too.

4. Once you’re done crushing the salt, pour it into the votive.

5. Next, gently pour in the water. Again, just full it up to a little below the lip so it doesn’t spill out over the edge.

image

6. Lastly, add your shells, stones, or trinkets. I added shells, an amethyst, and a goddess figure. It turned out looking like an altar for Aphrodite. Which I love, because I’ve been really drawn to her lately.

You can altar yours to fit your tastes. You can also make it as big or small as your want. I wanted mine to fit on my altar.

Post any questions you may have below in the comments. I’d be happy to answer them. I’d also love to see variations.

Witchy Wednesday: New Moon

Lately I haven’t been feeling very spiritual. My altar was a mess, I hadn’t felt like performing any rituals or spells, and I haven’t been working on my year and a day. I’ve just feeling kind of bleh.

Last night I thought I would try to get my groove back. It was the perfect night for it with the new moon and lunar eclipse. Even though I wouldn’t be able to see the eclipse here in Florida, I could still fell the energy. I set up my new altar design and made a sachet. I even made some seashell tea light candles to go with my new altar set up.

My sachet was to attract self love and the attributes I want to work in order to attract true love out my soul mate.
image
I sewed the sachet myself. [I will be making a sachet sewing tutorial soon.]

Sticking with the theme of self love/true love, I decided to set up my altar to honor Aphrodite. She was the goddess I called upon when I made my sachet. I don’t have a statue or picture of her (as she is not my patron goddesses), so I just added a bunch of seashells. I don’t usually add Sabbat decorations to my altars. I will usually do an item or two for symbolism, but I didn’t do anything for Ostara. Easter was always my least favorite holiday and that has carried over to Ostara now that I’m practicing Paganism.

Witchy Wednesday on Friday

I’ve been taking Wednesdays and Thursdays off. I forgot to schedule a W.W. before I took off (I only have internet at work).

This week I will be sharing my Samhain altar. My old altar was on a built in dresser which became hard to work at since I had to stand at it. I like to actually do most of my spell work at my altar so I wanted to move it some place that I could sit down and work. I already had the perfect spot.

I was using this pink thing as my “Meditation Station” so I just decided to turn it into my main altar. It’s a lot smaller than my old space, but it’s a lot more practical.

DSCN1305

I also already this cushion in front of it. I don’t know why I didn’t just make this my altar space from the beginning.

The little space below actually pulls out. That’s where I keep my divination things (tarot cards, runes, pendulum) and scriptures.

I don’t really like to put too much decorations on my altar for the Sabbats. I’ll using just put little things here and there that represent the Sabbat. I also like to make them useful if I can. I bought this baby pumpkin at Publix and used melted beeswax to draw on runes. I even put my pewter panther on top.

My sister painted me a Jack and Sally ATC. She likes to put them on the back of playing cards.

DSCN1298

Found some acorns for Samhain. They represent growth and potential. Perfect for the new year.

Here’s a picture of my grandmother (left) who passed in 2001. This is her sister who just passed last month. In front of the picture are my apple seeds I’ve been collecting. Might use them for a spell or something. Not sure yet.

DSCN1301

This is a picture of my aunt (my dad’s sister) in her prom dress. She and I never got along when she was alive. My dad recently gave me one of her journals though. As I’ve been reading it, I’ve realized we actually have a lot in common. That’s probably why we always butt heads.

DSCN1293

Another picture of my grandmother next to my Laughing Buddha (Hotei) who is wearing my Pagan Prayer/meditation beads.

Well that’s my new altar location. I like it a lot better and I use it a lot more.

Question: Where do you keep your altar?

Witchy Wednesday

Just a short one today.

image

My mom bought me these cute vintage mushroom candles. I’ll be putting them on my altar.

I used to collect vintage mushroom pictures and trinkets I found in thrift store. Slowly got rid of it all with every move I made within the past few years. Maybe I’ll start again?

Witchy Wednesday

There are crows that like to hang out in the parking lot at work. A week ago, i found some nice feathers that they had left behind. I brought them home and cleaned/sanitized them:

My dad also gave me a giant shell that was in his yard. He had gotten them from a friend.

It’s perfect for my smudge stick:
