I’ve had a hard time focusing on starting my goals. Actually I’ve had a hard time focusing on anything lately. I’ve been having lots of flare ups as well as bad insomnia the past few weeks. I have been trying to slowly work towards my goals though I guess slowly is better than not at all.

Well I never did post my goals so here they are. The main goals are in bold and then made a list of steps to accomplish each goal. I think one reason I can’t focus is I feel a bit overwhelmed. I realize I have set a lot of goals so I’m just going to work on them as best as I can and pace myself. It’s okay if I don’t accomplish all of them as long as I just continue to better myself. Four months

That’s right, it’s been 4 months since my last blog post. Oops. Life ended up getting really busy all at once. I ended up moving, starting my own salon (kind of), and having a bad Graves flare up. Things have started calming down so I thought I would catch up on my blog.

One of my goals this year was to blog more. I’m kind of sucking at that right now, but I do want to get better. You probably don’t believe me because I’ve said that in the past, so I guess I can just show you by doing. One of these days I may become a more consistent blogger. I’ve learned that planning my posts is a big part of that. I also don’t really have a blog niche yet. I’ve heard that’s important. I still haven’t found one so I’ve decided to blog about all the things until I find my niche. With that being said, here are some “themes” you can expect to find on this blog:

  • Paganism: I started studying Paganism last year. I don’t have a set path yet, so I will mostly be chronicling my journey to find a path. I’ve also been studying green witchcraft. Right now I’m identifying my path as Eclectic ChristoPagan. I was raised Christian (Mormon to be exact) and still keep a lot of Christian beliefs such as worshiping God and reading my scriptures.
  • Hair: I’m a professional hairstylist. I started booth renting back in April. I’m renting a suite so I will be posting the progress on my suite. I may throw in some hair tips and product reviews.
  • Graves disease: I was diagnosed with Graves disease back in 2012, but I still don’t know much about it. I thought it was something that you took medicine for for 2 years then went into remission. Boy was I wrong. This was mostly from my Endocrinologist. He hasn’t really talked to me about this disease so I don’t know much about it. Trust, I am looking for a new Endo as we speak.
  • Health: Because of my Graves, I’m having to change my lifestyle; what I eat, adding exercise (which I need anyway), and reducing stress levels. You will see me post updates on my diet, progress on my weight loss, ways I’ve found to reduce stress.
  • Green living: Part of my Graves is staying away from chemicals. This is mostly me just wanting to stay as healthy as possible. I will be trying to live a ‘Green” life by making my own natural beauty products. I will be posting about this journey as well.

So this is kind of what you will be seeing on my blog from now on. I’ve been having a lot of down time at work because it’s slow season so I hope to get some blog posts scheduled for next week.

New Moon and Beltane Altar

Since last night was the new moon, I decided to finally set up my Beltane altar. I like to keep my altar simple, even for Sabbats, otherwise it just feels cluttered. I didn’t add a lot of decorations, I went mostly for symbolism because I like to keep the same altar even after a Sabbat.

Beltaine: Beltaine (“Bright Fire”) is one of the Solar Festivals and honors the Celtic God known as Belinus. In ancient times, tribal herds were ritually driven between bonfires during this festival, so as to purify and protect them in the upcoming year, prior to their being taken to the pasture lands for the Summer.

Here is how I set it up:

My new ‘cauldron’ and my prayer/meditation beads I made.

Prayer Beads
Prayer/meditation beads: There are 13 white beads for the 13 moons; green, yellow, purple, blue, & red beads for the 5 elements (earth, air, spirit, water, & fire). On the hanging down part; 7 beads for the 7 chakras and a hamsa hand bead.

Hamsa Hand

Fire and Salt
n the center I put a Himalayn Pink Salt in a fancy dish surrounded by all the gemstones I have that are associated with the element fire. I also put my clear quartz crown around them.

The colors look like fire and salt represents purification and protection.

Clear quartz, zebra jasper, bloodstone, red jasper, carnelian, & citrine.

Two more zebra jaspers, tiger’s eye, and botswana agate.

My usual element candles and my triskele that I always keep on my altar.

My wire Valknut that’s also a permanent fixture.

My Maypole. The ribbon colors aren’t really ‘Beltane colors’, but they’re all I had so whatevs. Each ribbon is a wish.

fairy that I just found in my stuff one day. Not sure where it came from.

White Candle
White candle that’s a permanent fixture and represents spirit. Pentacle pendant I made a while ago and my tree of life pendant I also made.

Unakite is good for overcoming obstacles in personal growth.

My New Beginnings bottle, buffalo nickel, and pewter panther. The panther is my Spirit Guide.

The little ‘trinkets’ below my tree of life pendant from left to right; Unakite eagle pendant, buffalo nickel for luck, my New Beginnings bottle, another buffalo nickel, and a pewter panther. The three cards are my New Moon goals/desires/things I’m working on.

New Moon cards:

The new moon is the perfect time to write down your goals and desires to work on until the next full moon or until you accomplish them. I decided to draw mine out since these are things I will be constantly working on and hoping for. I painted the front of playing cards white and then drew my intentions on them. I’m going to paint them thought the week.

his one is for luck and career success. In Hindu culture, elephants represent luck. Above the elephant’s head is a prosperity sigil, with 3 Elder Futhark Runes. From left to right; Wunjo– Joy & accomplishments in love or career, Sowelo– Wholeness, success, good health, Thurisaz-Good luck, protection, unexpected opportunity. I made this one because I am about to start my new job- booth renting a hair styling studio. It’s been about 7 months since I’ve done hair so I’m basically starting from scratch. I’ve just been worried that I’m putting in more money than I’ll make or that it will take a long time to build a clientele and I won’t be able to pay my bills.

Phoenix (1)

The phoenix is reborn from its ashes. It represents rebirth and renewal. I also drew the phases of the moon; the moon also represent renewal. On the left and right are lunar symbols and an Inguz rune for successful completion with new starts. I drew this one because I want to start over. I’ve been going throw some things and trying to rid my life of a few negative habits I picked up [they’re too personal to post].

his one is for spiritual growth. The lotus flower with an unalome. The unalome symbol is a representation of reaching enlightenment. The path starts in the center of the spiral, and as you continue down this path you are wandering, becoming more conscious of your surroundings. When you reach the top of the symbol (the straight line), you have reached enlightenment. A triskele, valknut, chakra symbols for the chakras I want to work on repairing, a spiral (representing winding inward journey) and the symbols of the four elements.

These are long term goals I will be working on and constant desires.

What are some goals you’re working on?

Brain Fog

Since it’s been a while since my last real post, I’ll get you caught up.

I haven’t really been in the mood to blog these past couple of weeks. I’ve been kind of busy trying to get my Etsy shop up and running. The grand opening is March 4th (this Wednesday) and I still have a lot to do. Though I have gotten quite a bit done, I still feel like I can’t focus enough to finish everything on time. But I will. There are some things that I can just do later. I have been really good at the social media part. I’ve started a separate blog for the shop, plus a Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.

I think one reason for the brain fog is my low vitamin D levels. I went to the doctor last week to get a check up and he said they are one of the lowest he has ever seen. He put me on 10,000 MUI and I’ve been trying to sit out in the sun for at least 15 mins a day. I can’t sit out there too long or I will burn (redhead problems). He said it also causes crankiness [✓], mood swings [✓], and muscle/bone pain[✓]. I’m starting to think that this chronic back pain that I’ve had since my surgery in 2012. I remember that right after the surgery, my doctor told me I was low on vitamin D. I took vitamins for a while, then kind of just quit. I guess back then I didn’t think it was that important (plus I didn’t know about the side affects back then). Since I’ve been taking my vitamins though, my back has been hurting less. It’s kind of funny if that’s all it was. But also not if the solution has been this easy the whole time.

I also having really been feeling that spiritual lately. I think I’ve hit kind of a bump in my path, but I think I can get back on course. I didn’t stick to Lent like I said I would. When I got wrapped up in making jewelry, I watched Netflix to keep myself going. If I’m not multitasking, I tend to lose focus. It’s weird how that works. I always have to be watching TV while I’m making jewelry or doing something else while I’m watching TV. Always gotta be doing something. Probably because I have a billion thoughts racing through my mind at once. I also didn’t give up sugar like I wanted to. I figured I probably wouldn’t be able too. I’ve never been one to quit something cold turkey. I have cut down on it though. I need to get stricter about it though because my doctor also told me I need to cut it, as well as carbs. All the good stuff! Rude. With the new month, I’m am going to start fresh. I’m going to actually start working on the things I outlined to work on for Lent. I’m also going to re-focus on my New Year’s goals.

Work is going good. My patient is still hanging on. He gave me kind of scare 2 Sundays ago though. He was having really bad chest pains. I had to call the paramedics and they took him to the ER. I couldn’t get a hold of his daughter so I sat with him for about 5 hours until I finally got a hold of her. He ended up being in the hospital for about a week while they monitored him. It turned out to be nothing series, so that’s good.

Well that’s pretty much what I’ve been up to for the past two weeks. I’ll try to start blogging more this week.

Health-New Year’s Goal #4

Back in 2012, I became really sick. I was diagnosed with 2 auto-immune disorders and had a mass inside my chest. I ended up having to have surgery to remove the mass. The 9 months leading up to the surgery were brutal though. I was always sick and had to have several different tests done. The whole time they weren’t sure if it was cancerous or not. Luckily it was not. It was just an enlarged thymus. During this period of illness, I had to put my weight loss on hold. I didn’t have the energy to exercise, nor would my body let me. I could barely walk most days. My body was fighting against me. I lost my appetite. I did end up losing 30 pounds, but at an unhealthy rate of about 3 weeks. I was throwing up a lot and had about 2 migraines a day everyday for 2 months. After my surgery though, it started to recover. Most of my symptoms went away. I was able to go on medicine to control my auto-immune disorders. I was starting to get back to normal and started eating again. I did end up gaining the 30 pounds back, but I figured I would since I had lost it mostly from not being able to eat. I also gained an extra 30 pounds while I recovered due to inactivity. Not good. I also developed chronic back pain. This back pain has prevented me from starting working out again. It hurts when I try to work out. It hurts when I sit and it hurts when I lay down. I’ve been to the doctor and I’ve had x-rays, yet they don’t know what it is. My guess is from lack of activity and carrying around that extra 30 pounds. It’s been little over 2 years from my surgery and I’m still carrying it. My goal this year is to finally get rid of the weight, plus a little extra. I still have chronic back pain so I’m going to have to start slow. I want to focus mostly on changing my diet it for right now. Hopefully I can lose some weight just for that and it will help my back feel better. Once it does, I can slowly introduce exercise again. I do have some back stretches I can do to kind of alleviate then pain until then. I’ve tried to do yoga, but this extra weight has also put strain on my hips and knees, making it hard to do some of the poses. I won’t give up though. I’m going to look so some simple sitting exercises I can do on here for now. I’ve made some small goals to start with and slowly work my way up as I lose weight:

Month 1:

  • Cut fast food– I eat out way too much because I don’t feel like cooking.
  • Drink more water-I don’t enough as I should. My goal is eight glasses a day. I’m going to start drinking infused water again.
  • Back stretches-A physical therapist friend of mine gave me some back stretches to do for my lower back pain. I’m going to do these once a day to help minimize my pain.
  • Seated workouts-I’ve found some seated workouts on Pinterest and Sparkpeople that I think will work without hurting my back.
  • Develop a better sleep pattern-This one will be tricky because I work overnight on the weekend, but I want to work out a sleep schedule that will fit in with that. I’ll just shoot for 8-9 hours of sleep a day.

Month 2:

  • Cut all processed foods-My goal is to eat completely clean, which means no processed foods (canned, frozen, etc.)
  • Introduce yoga – Hopefully my back pain will have eased some by now and I can re-introduce yoga back into my workout regime.

Month 3:

  • Completely clean– My goal is to be eating completely clean by now, drinking lots of water, and getting well rested.
  • Start walking again-I used to love walking for exercise. I was able to walk between 3-5 miles a day. But that was when I was younger and before my surgery and extra weight. By month 3 though, I want to be able to start doing it again. Starting with at least 1 mile a day.

Year’s End:

  • Lose 30 pounds – I’m setting my goal low because in the past I have set it up way too high and have failed. Mostly because the goal was always too unrealistic. I think 30 pounds in 11 months is definitely doable though.

Well, these are the health goals that I have so far, I will make more as I go.

I have also have updated my Sparkpeople.com account, so if you have one to feel free to add me as a friend and we can go on this health journey together.

Career Change-New Year’s Goal #2

Back in September I had to retire from doing hair due to chronic lower back pain. I got a job doing home health care and taking care of an elderly man. It’s not as bad on my back since I don’t have to stand on my feet for 6-8 hours anymore, but I do have to lift him quite a bit. The lifting still hurts my back so I’ve been trying to figure out what else I could do career wise. There aren’t many jobs out there that don’t require you to constantly stand on your feet or to do some heavy lifting.

For some time now I’ve wanted to open an Etsy store and sell my hand-made jewelry and paintings. When I was a hairstylist, I just never had the time and when I did, I didn’t have the energy because of my back pain. Now that I have more time and energy I want to really pursue it. I’ll still do CNA work to pay bills and provide supply money. I’m giving myself a year to get the Etsy store to turn at least a little profit. I had an Etsy store a while back, but it didn’t do too good. Mostly because I didn’t put much effort into and because I didn’t market it. I’ve been putting together a business plan. Here’s a peak at what I have:

  • Make a few pieces of jewelry to list to get my shop started.
    • Goal accomplish date: mid-February
  • Advertise my shop and get some buyers.
    • Network through social media sites and get my name out there.
    • Tumblr, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.
    • While I’m getting my name out there, work on expanding my shop.
    • Slowly expand shop and give customers a variety of products.
    • My goal money flow for right now is about $400 a week.
      • Give myself a year to start making that.
      • Or at least making some kind of profit and progress.

This is just kind of an outline. I’m working on a more detailed one and hope to have it finished within the next week or two. I’m doing research on how to run an online business. I want to treat my Etsy shop as a business rather than a hobby. I want to eventually be able to solely support myself on it. I know it will take time and a lot of hard work, but I think I can do it. Even if it takes longer than a year. I’m mostly just giving myself a year to see if it looks like I can get somewhere with it. If it does, then I will keep with it.

I already have a Facebook page up here.

I hope to have items added in the next week or two.
